Correction, clarification of column

Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards is a rising senior, a fact that escaped me in this week's column. His presence will obviously negate the contention that East Carolina will have an advantage in terms of offensive leadership with Patrick Pinkney returning for the Pirates.

The quarterback experience situation looks like a wash in the season opener on Sept. 5 in Greenville. In fact, the talents of the two starting quarterbacks should be a compelling factor as this long dormant rivalry resumes.

Also, there seems to be some doubt about whether running back Jonathan Williams is or is not taking part in voluntary summer workouts at ECU. Pirates strength and conditioning coach Mike Golden said he is not allowed to comment on an individual's involvement in the summer sessions because of NCAA regulations.

Tom McClellan, director of athletic media relations at ECU, said that coach Skip Holtz will address Williams' status with the program at the outset of preseason camp.

A number of readers have e-mailed in the last couple of days. Rather than respond individually, let me take this opportunity to apologize and thank you for contacting me.
