GREENVILLE — A familiar face was missing from the East Carolina lineup
Thursday night.
Gunning for a school record 8-0 start, the Pirates faced George Mason
without starting point guard Travis Holcomb-Faye, who was held out of the
Patriots game due to academic reasons.
According to Pirates coach Bill Herrion, the timetable for the senior
point guard's return is unknown.
"He's got some academic obligations and academic commitments that he has
to fulfill before he plays for us again," Herrion said. "So, right now we
are withholding him from playing until he takes care of that.
"I don't have an answer (to when he might be back). It's in his hands."
Holcomb-Faye, who earlier this season shattered East Carolina's all-time
assist record, was averaging 9.4 points per game, fourth best on the team.
Through seven games, the Winston-Salem senior had dished out 36 assists,
while committing 20 turnovers.
Junior guard Derrick Wiley said following the 66-56 loss to George Mason
the Pirates missed Holcomb-Faye's intangibles as well.
"It hurt really bad," Wiley said. "We were missing a solid point guard
who has experience, who knows what to do in crucial times in the game and
knows who to get the ball to. It hurts and hopefully we can get him back."
