NCAA Saturday: The Highs and Lows

STARS
Tayshaun Prince, Kentucky, shot 14-for-21 from the field and scored a
career-high 41 points to lead the Wildcats to an 87-82 victory over Tulsa in
the East Regional.
Jared Jeffries, Indiana, scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half
as the Hoosiers defeated North Carolina Wilmington 76-67 in the South
Regional and advanced to the third round for the first time since 1994.
Rickey Paulding, Missouri, had 20 points and nine rebounds in the
Tigers' 83-67 victory over Ohio State in the West Regional.
Luke Walton, Arizona, scored 20 points and had nine assists to send the
Wildcats to the round of 16 for the seventh time in the past 12 seasons with
a 68-60 victory over Wyoming in the West Regional.
TRIO OF DUCKS
Luke Jackson scored 29 points, Luke Ridnour 28 and Frederick Jones 24 as
the three accounted for all but 11 of Oregon's points in a 92-87 win over
Wake Forest in the Midwest Regional.
UPSET OF THE DAY
Kent State, seeded 10th, ousted Southeastern Conference regular-season
champion Alabama 71-58 in the South Regional to advance to a regional
semifinal for the first time. Kent State has won a school-record 20 straight
games.
SHOTS OF THE DAY
Duke's Jason Williams, a 67 percent free-throw shooter, broke a 75-75 tie
with Notre Dame by sinking the go-ahead foul shots with 1:04 left. The Blue
Devils (31-3) advanced to the round of 16 for the fifth straight year and
18th time overall with an 84-77 victory in the South Regional.
RUNS
Kansas (31-3) opened its game against eighth-seeded Stanford with a 15-0
run, and then closed the first half on a 10-0 run to cruise to an 86-63
victory in the Midwest Regional.
SEE YA
Second-seeded Alabama became the highest-seeded school to exit the
tournament when No. 10 Kent State pulled off a 71-58 upset in the South
Regional.
WELCOME BACK
Indiana held off 13th-seeded North Carolina Wilmington 76-67 in the South
Regional and advanced to the round of 16 for the first time since 1994.
Second-year coach Mike Davis will lead the fifth-seeded Hoosiers (22-11)
against defending national champion Duke (31-3) in the semifinals.
CLOSE CALLS
Duke trailed Notre Dame 71-64 with about 6 minutes left in their South
Regional game, but the Blue Devils outscored the Irish 20-6 the rest of the
way for an 84-77 victory.
Kentucky, despite Tayshaun Prince's career-high 41 points, struggled
against Tulsa before winning 87-82 in the East Regional.
After Wake Forest led for more than 20 minutes, Oregon tied it at 78-78
with 5:58 left. Luke Ridnour hit a 3-pointer with 3:32 remaining, and
neither team got another field goal until the final second as the Ducks made
their free throws down the stretch and eked out a 92-87 win.
BOARDS
Missouri dominated Ohio State on the boards 52-28, including 18 at the
offensive end, in an 83-67 win in the West Regional.
STREAKS
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski improved to 14-0 against former assistants
after beating Mike Brey's Notre Dame team 84-77 in the South Regional.
ONE-SIDED
Arizona was 20-of-28 from the free-throw line in its 68-60 win over
Wyoming in the West Regional, while the Cowboys were just 4-of-7.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
``When they were down seven and their life was flashing before their
eyes, (Duke) really locked in on defense.'' Notre Dame coach Mike Brey
after the Irish blew a 71-64 lead over Duke with 6 minutes left and were
outscored 20-6 the rest of the way in an 84-77 loss in the South Regional.
