DePaul
rallied from a big deficit
to beat UAB 75-74 in overtime and Cincinnati
unleashed a barrage of three-pointers
to brush aside Saint Louis 66-46 in Friday's Conference USA
Tournament semifinals.
The outcomes set the stage for a collision
between the Blue Demons and Bearcats for the second time in a week in
today's championship game (CBS, 11:37 a.m.).
Cincinnati lost at DePaul 68-65 on Mar. 4,
falling into a five-way tie with the Blue Demons, Charlotte, Memphis and UAB
for the regular season title.
In today's match-up, the Bearcats will have
a home court advantage of sorts. The tournament is being played at a
downtown Cincinnati arena a short drive from UC's campus.
The Bearcats won the tournament in 1996,
1998 and 2002 — the last two times in the same arena — but will have to find
a way to trip up the surging Blue Demons to repeat the feat.
DePaul, which two years ago couldn't even
make the C-USA Tournament Field, is on a mission to
rekindle the glory of a storied program that was a perennial
juggernaut in the days of legendary coach Ray Meyer and standout players
Mark Aguirre and Terry Cummings.
