Rouse lifts Pirates out
of doldrums

GREENVILLE — The skid is
over and the frustration in Conference USA games is at least temporarily
suspended for East Carolina, thanks in part to Corey Rouse.
Rouse, a senior forward
from Kinston, scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Pirates
defeated visiting Tulsa 59-45 Saturday to halt their five-game losing
streak and pick up their first league win of the season.
Sam Hinnant, a freshman
guard from Charlotte, hit three of eight from behind the arc in scoring
12 points for ECU (7-12, 1-5), which scored 19 points off 19 Tulsa
turnovers.
Anthony Price came off the
bench to score 13 points for Tulsa (7-11, 2-3), the only Golden
Hurricane player to post double figures.
Tulsa's largest lead was
only 4 points at the 13:57 mark of the first half. East Carolina, which
shot 50 percent from the line, led by as many as 22 points at the 11:19
mark of the second half.
The Pirates will try to
build a mini-streak on Wednesday when they face Marshall on the road.
Tip-off for the C-USA contest is 7 p.m.
