GREENVILLE — Freshman Sam
Hinnant scored 18 points to lead five players in double-digit scoring as
East Carolina defeated UNC-Wilmington 82-69 on Saturday.
Courtney Captain came off
the bench to post 15 points and Corey Rouse, Tyronne Beale and Jeremy
Ingram each had 11 points for the Pirates (5-6).
Rouse grabbed a game-high
11 rebounds to notch a double-double.
Todd Henly led the
Seahawks (9-4) with 13 points, while Taylor Lay and T.J. Carter added 10
points apiece.
ECU shot 56 percent
(14-of-25) from the floor to lead 46-29 at the break.
UNC-W rallied in the
second half and outscored East Carolina 15-5 over a four-minute stretch
to come within 10, 73-63, with 2:07 left.
The Pirates then made
7-of-10 free throws in the final two minutes to secure the 13-point win.
East Carolina held the
Seahawks to their second-lowest field goal percentage of the year at
35.6 percent.
The Pirates travel to Wake
Forest Tuesday for a 9 p.m. game that will televised by Fox Sports Net
South.
