GREENVILLE — Derrick Wiley scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as East Carolina beat cold-shooting Campbell 93-54 in the season opener Saturday night.

Belton Rivers added 15 points and Gabriel Mikulas 13 and nine rebounds as the Pirates pulled away from Campbell in the second half.

Campbell trailed only 40-30 at intermission, despite shooting 31 percent (11 of 35) from the field. East Carolina took charge after that, shooting 54 percent (20 of 37) from the floor while holding Campbell to 26 percent.

"I thought in the first half we were a little overanxious," said ECU coach Bill Herrion. "In the second half we did a better job of taking care of the basketball and when we do that I think we have a chance to be a pretty good team."

Anthony Atkinson had 14 points while Tarick Johnson added 11 in the Camels' first game under new coach Robbie Lang.

East Carolina dominated the inside, outrebounding Campbell 56-26 — 18-7 on the offensive boards.
