GREENVILLE — Derrick Wiley scored a game-high 26 points to lead a well-rounded East Carolina offensive and defensive effort that overpowered visiting Radford 87-50 Tuesday night.

Wiley converted 10 of 18 shots from the field and had six rebounds and ECU as a team made field goals at a blistering pace down the stretch to break open what had been a close game in its early stages.

Gabriel Mikulas scored 15 points and Erroyl Bing and Mike Cook notched 10 points apiece for the Pirates, who boosted their record to 8-1. Cook also contributed seven rebounds and five assists.

East Carolina trailed 13-12 early but Wiley responded with back-to-back 3-pointers to ignite a 20-6 run. The Pirates led 34-21 at halftime and never looked back, shooting 69 percent from the field after intermission and outscoring the Highlanders (4-6) in the final frame by 24.

Whit Holcomb-Faye, the brother of former ECU point guard Travis Holcomb-Faye, had 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists for Radford,which shot 30 percent from the field. Kyle Zaharias finished with 10 for the Highlanders, who made only 1-of-14 from 3-point range.

The Pirates return to action on Saturday, Jan. 3, in an 8 p.m. matchup in Oxford, Miss., against Southeastern Conference foe Ole Miss.
