With its season-opening series with Maryland on the line, East Carolina's Dale Mollenhauer demonstrated that walk-off hits don't necessarily have to travel very far.

The sophomore shortstop from Gibsonia, PA, put down a suicide squeeze bunt with one out in the bottom of the ninth that scored Stephen Batts with the winning run for a 5-4 victory over Maryland in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday.

The Terps had taken the first game as Brett Tidball and Brett Cecil combined on a shutout in Maryland's 1-0 win.

Combined with its 6-1 win on Friday, ECU (2-1) took the series at Clark-LeClair Stadium with its rally from a 4-3 deficit in the ninth inning of the concluding contest.

Cecil was going for his second save of the day when Harrison Eldridge singled up the middle to start ECU's comeback. Batts singled to right and Brandon Henderson's bunt single loaded the bases.

Jay Mattox, Jake Smith, Eldridge and Drew Schieber had two hits each in the third game of the series for the Pirates.

ECU is scheduled to host College of Charleston for a 3-game series beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. The teams will play Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
