Owls one win away from Omaha

From Conference USA

Jordan Dodson scored from second base on a single in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game and singled through the left side to drive in the winning run from second in the tenth inning as Rice rallied to defeat Texas A&M, 3-2, in game one of the NCAA Houston Super Regional on Friday night.

A crowd of 5,074, the fourth largest in Reckling Park history, witnessed Rice come back from a 2-0 deficit after 2 1/2 innings to take its 21st consecutive win at home.

The victory gives the Owls a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series heading into today's 6 p.m. EDT game (ESPNU), putting the Owls one win away from their sixth trip to the College World Series and their fourth in the last six years.

In other action on the first day of the super regionals, North Carolina defeated South Carolina 9-6, Louisville smothered Oklahoma State 9-0, and Mississippi State beat Clemson 8-6.
