BOWL WEEK BEGINS

After a night to recover from a trans-USA flight from Eastern North Carolina to the Hawaiian island of Oahu, the East Carolina football team launched into a bowl week routine that will combine serious practice time with more leisurely pursuits.

ECU coach Skip Holtz and Boise State coach Chris Petersen, each accompanied by player representatives, met with the press Tuesday afternoon to discuss their teams' matchup in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl (Sunday, 8 p.m., ESPN).

BSU will be without three suspended players when it battles the Pirates in Aloha Stadium. Star receiver Jeremy Childs, reserve defensive back Keith McGowen and backup linebacker Ben Chandler did not accompany the Broncos to Honolulu because of violations of team rules, said Petersen.
