Newcomers pace ECU hoops

Junior college transfer
Darrell Jenkins recorded a double-double of 22 points and 12 assists and
led a parade of five players — four of whom are newcomers — in double
figures as East Carolina defeated Morgan State, 86-67, Saturday night in
Greenville.
ECU freshman Gabe Blair
scored 13 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and junior
Jeremy Ingram came off the bench to also score 13 points. Freshman John
Fields blocked three shots to go along with 12 points, and junior
college transfer Cory Farmer scored 11 points in a reserve role.
The Pirates, who shot 51.6
percent from the field — including a 42.9 percent mark from three-point
range — pulled away in the second half after going in at the break with
a 44-42 lead.
The game was the season
opener for both teams. ECU returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at
Richmond. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Robbins Center.
