Central Florida made 15 of
29 three-point shots and almost doubled East Carolina's rebounding
total in rolling to a 110-75 rout of the Pirates in a Conference USA
game Wednesday night in Orlando.
Junior guard/forward
Jermaine Taylor scored 23 points and hauled in 7 rebounds, both game
highs, as the Golden Knights completed a season sweep of the Pirates. UCF
edged
ECU 71-66 in
Greenville on Jan. 19.
Central Florida improved
to 14-11, 7-4 in the conference, while East Carolina fell to 8-16, 2-9.
The loss was the Pirates' fourth straight and their eighth in nine
games.
UCF, which scored 110
points in a game for the first time since 1991, led 50-35 at halftime
and accelerated the runaway as the second half unfolded.
The Knights out-rebounded
the Pirates 41-22.
Senior guard Mike
O'Donnell scored 22 points, 18 of which came from behind the arc, while
senior guard Dave Noel had 14 points and senior guards Chip Cartwright
and Mike Battle each added 10 points for Central Florida.
Sophomore forward John
Fields produced 22 points for the Pirates on 7 of 10 shooting from the
field and 8 of 11 from the free throw line.
East Carolina continues
its road swing with a league game at Texas-El Paso on Saturday night.
Tip-off is slated for 9:05 p.m. ET.
