McCarthy era starts with win

Senior guard Darrell Jenkins scored 17 points, sophomore forward John Fields added 14 and freshman guard Brock Young contributed 11 as East Carolina trounced Division II Limestone 78-60 on Saturday in Greenville.

Sophomore forward Gabe Blair hauled in 9 rebounds and had 5 steals for ECU in its first game under head coach Mack McCarthy, who succeeded Ricky Stokes at the helm of the Pirates program during the offseason.

Senior guard Marques Williams of the Saints led all scores with 24.

East Carolina, a member of Conference USA, will host Richmond of the Atlantic 10 Conference on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
