ECU rally Flames out at
buzzer

For the second straight
game, a second half comeback by East Carolina fell short as sophomore
forward Alex McLean's tip-in at the buzzer lifted Liberty to a 55-53 win
over the Pirates Saturday night in Greenville.
McLean's put back of a
missed layup by senior guard TeeJay Bannister cancelled out a dramatic
ECU rally that wiped out a 10-point deficit in little over five minutes.
The Pirates' surge had culminated in a tie game when freshman guard
Brock Young made one of two free throws with 18 seconds remaining.
The Flames (2-3) were led
by sophomore guard B.J. Jenkins' 22 points. McLean scored 12 points and
had a game-high 9 rebounds and Bannister contributed 10 points.

Blair paced ECU with 15 points and senior guard Darrell Jenkins added
12.
Liberty out-shot East
Carolina from short range and long range. The Flames made 47.6% from the
field (20-42) and 41.7% from behind the arc (5-12), while holding ECU to
39.6% (21-53) and 21.4% (3-14), respectively.
It was the second time
this week the Pirates (1-2) produced second half thrills and came up
empty. On Tuesday night, East Carolina overcame a seven-point halftime
deficit against visiting Richmond but
succumbed to the Spiders 67-65 in overtime.
The Pirates will host the
N.C. Wesleyan Fighting Bishops on
Tuesday at 7 p.m.
