Senior guard Jermaine Taylor closed out his home career in heroic fashion on Senior Day, scoring 36 points to power Central Florida to a 74-71 comeback win over East Carolina Saturday night in Orlando.

Taylor's old-fashioned three-point play with 28 seconds left put UCF ahead 72-71 and sealed the deal on a remarkable second half turnaround by the Golden Knights.

Senior guard Sam Hinnant, who led ECU with 22 points, was whistled for a charging foul with less than 3 seconds left, short-circuiting the Pirates' strategy to play for the final shot in the regular season finale for both of the Conference USA teams.

East Carolina led 37-23 at the half and extended its advantage to as much as 17 with 18:17 to play before Taylor and the Knights seized the upper hand with a 38-17 run over the next 12 minutes.

UCF, whch outscored the Pirates 51-34 in the second half, traded momentum and leads with ECU as the clock wound down until Taylor's pivotal three-point play in the final minute.

Senior center Kenrick Zondervan added 15 points and 8 rebounds for the Knights.

Senior guard James Legan and sophomore wing Jamar Abrams each scored 13 points for the Pirates.

With the win, Central Florida (17-13, 7-9 C-USA) nailed down the No. 6 seed in the C-USA Tournament in Memphis and will face 11th-seeded Southern Miss on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

ECU goes into the tourney as the ninth seed and will play No. 8 seed Tulane at 7 p.m.
