Charlotte dominated inside
and led from start to finish to remain unbeaten with a 76-64 victory
over East Carolina Saturday night at Halton Arena.
The 49ers improved to 7-0,
their best start ever, while knocking the 5-1 Pirates from the
undefeated ranks.
Senior forward Chris
Braswell led Charlotte offensively with a game-high 18 points, while
freshman forward Willie Clayton scored 14, junior guard DeMario Mayfield
added 12 and sophomore guard Terrence Williams contributed 11.
Clayton hauled in 13
rebounds to help the Niners control the battle of the backboards 45-21.
Senior forward Maurice
Kemp had 16 points and senior guard Miguel Paul and sophomore guard
Paris Roberts-Campbell recorded 12 apiece for ECU.
Charlotte outscored the
Pirates in the paint 46-24 and put up 14 second chance points while
allowing ECU none.
Charlotte, which jumped
out to a 9-2 advantage to start the game, led 37-26 at halftime and
maintained a margin of at least 9 points the rest of the way.
The Pirates return home for a chance to get back on the winning track
when they host NAIA member St. Andrews on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
