Jeff Barber, an East Carolina alumnus who serves as director of the Gamecock Club at South Carolina has withdrawn from consideration for the position of athletics director at East Carolina. Barber said he has informed new chancellor Steve Ballard of his decision in a written statement.

Barber was one of three finalists identified by an AD search committee from a group of nine people who were interviewed near Raleigh- Durham International Airport earlier this year. Other finalists included ECU interim AD Nick Floyd and former Air Force AD Randall Spetman.

Ballard has indicated the search process will be restructured and a consultant firm will likely be used in order to identify the best possible pool of candidates.
