The professional journey of East Carolina
Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick cold add another chapter as early as
Thursday. According to a story in the Las Vegas Sun, University of
Nevada-Las Vegas president Carol Harter has scheduled that day to reveal her choice to
replace John Robinson as the school's athletics director at a Board of
Regents meeting in Reno.
Hamrick, who arrived in Greenville in 1995,
is among three finalists for the vacant AD post and is believed to have
strong backing from many involved in the interviewing process. Wayne Hogan
(Montana) and Mike Bohn (Idaho) are the others.
In the early years of his career in
athletics administration, Hamrick worked in marketing and promotions at UNLV
in 1981-82.
Fund established for paralyzed former Card
A
fund has been established to aid former University of Louisville guard
Marques Maybin, the Cardinals' No. 12 all-time scorer,
who was involved in a motorcycle accident on Aug. 5
which has left him paralyzed from the waist down.
In his two years since completing his
career with the Cardinals, Maybin has played professional basketball in
Beirut and France. He had not established his professional contract for the
coming season and did not have medical insurance.
Donations may be sent to:

Maybin led the Cardinals in scoring his
final two years at U of L and averaged 17.7 points as a senior during the
2000-01 season. He completed his career (1991-2001) with 1,624 points,
ranking 12th all-time at Louisville and eighth in Conference USA history.
His career 156 three-point goals is fourth all-time for the Cardinals and he
is sixth in career dunks with 95.
Bearcats expect to have foes seeing red

Juniors Richard Hall (left) and Doug
Monaghan model Cincinnati's new home uniforms, which feature red
jerseys and black pants. |
|
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Opponents will be seeing
red when they face the University of Cincinnati at home this season.
The Bearcat football team will wear new red
jerseys for its games in Nippert Stadium instead of black as has been the
case the past 19 seasons.
UC will don black pants to go with its red
jerseys. The jerseys have black numbers with white trim. The Bearcats will
wear white jerseys with black pants on the road.
Cincinnati had worn red jerseys through
much of the 1950s, 60s and 70s. The Bearcats were surprised by new black
jerseys just before kickoff of their 1983 game with Temple, which resulted
in a 31-16 win. Black became the team's primary home color thereafter,
though the team experimented with red uniforms the past two seasons.
The change begins a new association with
Nike.
