Pirate Radio 1250 will be
giving away bright gold T-shirts to the first 1,250 students in the lower
arena for the ECU vs. Louisville basketball game in Minges Coliseum's
Williams Arena on Thursday, Jan. 15.
The
Conference USA battle between the Pirates and the 10th-ranked Cardinals is
scheduled for a 9 p.m. tip-off and will be carried by ESPN2.
“The ECU-Louisville match up
is going to be a showcased on national television as a primetime game and we
wanted to build the atmosphere in Williams Arena to an even higher level by
creating a sea of gold in the lower section," said station co-owner Troy
Dreyfus in the announcement of the promotion from WGHB-AM 1250. "This will
be another opportunity to show the country that the 'Pirate Nation' is for
real.”
Students are asked to arrive
when the gates open and will be given a free T-shirt once seated, according
to the statement.
Pirate Radio 1250, with
studios in downtown Greenville, normally initiates its pre-game programming
one hour ahead of time but will begin it’s coverage of the ECU-Louisville
contest at 5 p.m., four hours prior to tip-off.
The station's
live audio feed for all games as
well as for other ECU sports-related programming is also streamed over the
Internet through a cooperative venture between Bonesville.net and Pirate
Radio 1250.
Sugar Bowl bombs in boob-tube ratings
NEW YORK — The Sugar Bowl drew the
second-worst national TV rating for a BCS championship game.
ABC Sports' telecast of LSU's 21-14 victory over Oklahoma on Sunday night
got a 14.8 rating and 23 share. That ranks fifth of the six Bowl
Championship series national title games.
The only lower rating was the 13.8 with a 22 share for the 2002 Rose Bowl,
when Miami beat Nebraska 37-14.
Last season, Ohio State's double overtime victory over Miami in the Fiesta
Bowl got a 17.2/29.
The rating is the percentage of all homes with TVs, whether or not they are
in use. Each rating point represents a little more than 1 million TV homes.
