East Carolina's Pernell Griffin has been named a first-team All-Conference USA member for the third year in a row. For the senior linebacker, the honor culminates a four-your string of all-league accolades that began with his selection to the C-USA All-Freshman team in 1998.

Griffin was joined on the first team by a pair of teammates, running back Leonard Henry and offensive tackle Brian Rimpf, while Pirate quarterback David Garrard, linebacker Greg LeFever and kicking specialist Kevin Miller were second-team selections.

ECU also placed a player on the All-Freshman team. Warrenton rookie Marvin Townes was honored as a return specialist.

A native of Williamston, Griffin recently became C-USA's all-time leading career tackler.

Henry, a senior from Clinton who was named second-team All-Conference in 2000, established a new single-season league rushing record in 2001 with 1,432 yards.

Rimpf, a sophomore from Raleigh, was a member of last season's All-Freshman team.

For Garrard, who holds virtually all of ECU's career passing records, it is the third consecutive year he has been named second-team All-C-USA. The Durham senior also made the All-Freshman team in 1998.

Miller, a junior who hails from Virginia Beach, earned his spot on the second team by returning to the form he displayed as a freshman in 1999, when he was selected to the All-Freshman squad.

Regular season champion Louisville, ranked No. 22 in this week's AP poll, placed a league-high eight players on the All-C-USA first team and 11 players on the two teams combined.
