Conference USA's 2003-04 lineup of
title events has
been determined and, for the second year in a row, East Carolina will
not be hosting any of the championships.
The dates and sites for each of next
year's championship competitions were approved during the league's
annual spring meetings this week in Destin, FL.
C-USA's 15 championships, covering 18
men’s and women’s sports, will be hosted by eight different schools.
Houston and Louisville will each host three championships, while
Memphis, South Florida and Texas Christian will host two.
The slate of competitions was announced
Friday by the league office.
For the first time ever, multiple
championships will be held simultaneously at the same site. Houston will
host the Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships as well as the
Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Championships during the final weekend of
February.
The Cougars will also host the league
baseball tournament, which is scheduled for the last week in May. East
Carolina hosted the event before large crowds at Kinston's Grainger
Stadium in May of 2002, and the school — which upset Houston to win that
tournament — has not hosted a title event since then.
In the middle of May, the Softball
Championship Tournament and the Outdoor Track and Field Championships
will be held at Louisville.
The league's premiere title event, the
men’s basketball tournament, returns to Cincinnati for the second time
in three years with U.S. Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati serving as
the host venue. Louisville's Freedom Hall was the host for this past
season's tournament.
Fort Worth is the site for the women’s
basketball tournament, as TCU hosts the league tournament for the first
time.
