GREENVILLE — East Carolina pitcher Sam Narron has been named to the 2002 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Team, selected by the newspaper Collegiate Baseball.
Narron, a junior southpaw, is a second-team pick by the publication after being tabbed, along with teammate Will Brinson, for third-team honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association last month. Brinson, also a junior pitcher, is a right-hander.
Narron, a native of Goldsboro, tied the East Carolina season record for victories last year while posting a 12-1 record. A first team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection in 2001, he struck out 67 batters and posted a 2.67 earned run average.
Narron tossed a five-hitter in a complete-game effort in the championship game of the NCAA Regional at Wilson, N.C., to help the Pirates advance to their first Super Regional.

East Carolina is scheduled to open its 2002 season at Harrington Field on February 15 in the first of a three-game home series against Delaware.
