GREENVILLE — One day after being named first-team Freshman All-America by
Baseball America, East Carolina's Darryl Lawhorn was named second team
All-America by the publication on Wednesday.
Lawhorn, a first baseman/third baseman/outfielder, becomes the 11th
player in school history to be decorated with All-America honors.
Lawhorn, who set multiple ECU freshmen and single season records, has
received numerous awards this postseason. In addition to a number of
national accolades, he earned a spot on the All-Conference USA first team
and was named the league's Freshman of the Year.
The Wilmington native also won the Most Valuable Player award at the
C-USA Tournament at Kinston's Grainger Stadium as the Pirates swept the
title and earned an automatic berth in the NCAA regionals. In the Clemson
regional, Lawhorn was named to the All-Regional team.
Lawhorn finished the season with the fifth highest single-season batting
average in school history (.416) and third most home runs (19).

GREENVILLE — East Carolina first baseman Darryl Lawhorn, who plays a
number of other positions when the need arises, has been named a member of
Baseball America's Freshman All-America first team.
The Wilmington native hit an ECU freshman record 19 home runs, the most
by any player on Baseball America's Freshmen All-America team. His
.416 batting average and 68 runs batted in were second highest on the team
behind Rice first baseman Vincent Sinisi.
Lawhorn finished second in Conference USA in batting, home runs and third
in RBI. Lawhorn took home the league`s Freshman of the Year award, while
leading the conference in hits with an ECU record 104.
Florida State`s Stephen Drew was named Freshman of the Year by the
publication.
Earlier this month, Lawhorn shared Collegiate Baseball's National
Freshman of the Year award with the Owls' Sinisi and pitcher Phillip Humber,
also of Rice.
