Rivers Signs Letter-of-Intent with ECU
From ECU Media Relations
GREENVILLE
— Belton Rivers, generally regarded as one of the top backcourt prospects in
the Southeast, has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend East
Carolina University, according to an announcement made by Pirate head men`s
basketball coach Bill Herrion today.
Rivers, a
6-3, 185-pound combo guard, has been a standout performer at Douglass High
School in Atlanta. As a senior this past season, Rivers averaged 32.0 points
and six rebounds per game. A starter on the varsity since his sophomore
season, Rivers has been named all-conference each of the past three seasons.
He was also named Team MVP as both a junior and senior.
"With this
recruiting class, we're looking to add more depth on the perimeter and
Belton helps us fill that need," said Pirate head coach Bill Herrion. "The
thing we really liked about Belton is the fact that he can score. He is a
very aggressive offensive player and can play either guard position."
"Belton is
very excited about attending East Carolina," said Douglass head coach Frank
Robinson. "He is an outstanding student and basketball player."
Rivers joins
a recruiting class which also includes Kinston High School's Corey Rouse, a
second team all-state performer in North Carolina, who inked with ECU during
the early signing period last November.
