GREENVILLE — Seven players earned individual accolades at the East
Carolina men's basketball postseason awards social in the Club Level of
Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
Senior Kenyatta Brown and sophomore Erroyl Bing shared Most Valuable
Player honors. Brown finished third on the team in scoring, while leading
the Pirates in three-point field goals made and steals. Bing led ECU in both
scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
Senior Brandon Hawkins, who leaves ECU with the second most games played
in school history (112), won the Doug Byrd Sixth Man of the Year award.
Fellow senior Bryan Foxx was named the team's Most Improved Player. Foxx
established career highs in almost every statistical category. He averaged
4.0 points per game, doubling his career average entering the 2001-02
campaign.
Junior Travis Holcomb-Faye won the Spirit Hustle Award. Holcomb-Faye
dished out 116 assists last season and finished second on the team in
rebounding (4.0) and steals (1.2).
Freshman Moussa Badiane, a member of the Conference USA All-Freshmen
team, was named the Pirates' Defensive Player of the Year. Badiane blocked
an ECU single season record 87 shots, 41 better than the previous mark.
Sophomore Gabriel Mikulas, named on Saturday to the PCS Phosphate
All-Academic Team, was also honored for having the team's highest grade
point average, a 3.28 in management.
