Baldwin adds two assistants, plans
one more hire
GREENVILLE — Sharon Baldwin, East Carolina's head women's
basketball coach, named Melissa Kolbe and Brady Sallee to her staff on
Monday.
Kolbe comes to ECU from Mercer University, where she served
as an assistant under Baldwin. While at Mercer, she helped with recruiting
and served as the academic coordinator.
A native of Cleveland, OH, Kolbe was also involved with
workouts, scouting, and administrative duties. Prior to her year at Mercer,
Kolbe was an assistant coach at Valdosta State University, where she had
many of the same duties she was assigned at at Mercer.
The 25-year-old had an outstanding playing career at
Division III Wittenburg College in Springfield, OH, where she helped her
team to three conference titles and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
Sallee, 32, joins the East Carolina staff after serving as
an assistant coach for the Kent State women's program for the past seven
years. While with the Golden Flashes, he was responsible for recruiting and
the coaching of the guards.
Kent State participated in the NCAA Tournament four of the
seven years Sallee was with the team. Before coaching at KSU, Sallee was at
Idaho State University, where he recruited two Big Sky Conference Freshman
of the Year.
Sallee graduated from Thomas Moore College in 1993 and went
on to begin his coaching career there. While at Thomas Moore, Sallee was a
pitcher on the baseball team, going 8-1 his senior season.
A native of Lexington, KY, Sallee is married to the former
Mandy Nance. The couple has one child, Avery.
"Both Melissa and Brady will make a great addition to our
staff," said Baldwin.
"Brady is a great recruiter, has many contacts, and I expect
he will be able to recruit great players here to ECU. Melissa will also be
helping with recruiting, scouting and academic development, and with
individual workouts.
"They both bring a tremendous amount of experience to the
table, and we are looking forward to an exciting season."
Baldwin is expected to hire one more assistant before the
beginning of basketball season.
