Buies Creek

Junior third baseman Elijah Trail drove in six runs
with a two-run homer, a three-run double and a bases loaded walk to propel
Campbell to an 8-6 victory over East Carolina Wednesday evening at Jim Perry
Stadium in Buies Creek.
Trail's bases loaded two-bagger in the seventh was the
decisive blow, lifting Campbell from a one-run deficit to a two-run lead
that junior righthanded reliever Ryan Thompson protected over the final two
innings.
The Camels outhit the Pirates 12-9. A parade of players
from both teams also reached base on free passes as each pitching staff
issued seven walks.
Senior second baseman Jay Cannon belted a leadoff homer
for the Pirates in the second.
Zach Houchins was the only ECU player to hit safely
twice. The junior third baseman was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run
scored.

The outcome boosted Campbell to 14-2 on the season and
sealed the Camels' first two-game season sweep of ECU since 1985. Campbell
captured a 6-4 win when the teams met in Greenville on Feb. 19.
The triumph also marked the 300th career victory for
Campbell coach Gregg Goff. In his sixth year guiding the Camels, Goff served
a four-year stint as head coach at Division II Montevallo before arriving in
Buies Creek.
The Pirates fell to 9-7 heading into a weekend series
at Jacksonville. The first game in the three-game set is Friday at 6:30 p.m. |
