GREENVILLE  — A crowd of 4,214 saw East Carolina pitchers Brett Mabry, Ryan Williams and Drew Reynolds shut out N.C. State for a 7-0 nonconference win on Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Reynolds and Zach Houchins had one-out singles before Ian Townsend hit a sacrifice fly to center.

ECU improved to 20-13, evening the season series with the Wolfpack following a 3-2 loss in Raleigh a week earlier.

Reynolds, Houchins and Townsend had two hits each for the Pirates. Dylan Brown, Charlie Yorgen and Garrett Brooks also had base knocks for ECU.

A two-run triple by Reynolds plated two runs as the Pirates extended their lead to 7-0 with three runs in the seventh. Reynolds scored on a single up the middle by Houchins.

"Our situational hitting is getting better and better," said ECU coach Billy Godwin after the Pirates won for the 10th time in their last 12 games.

Mabry (3-0) stopped NCSU (19-13), which reached the College World Series in 2013, on six hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Williams worked two innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. Williams struck out the side in the seventh.

Reynolds allowed one hit and one walk with two whiffs in the ninth before a fly to Brooks in center field ended the game. ECU stranded two State runners in the ninth, 10 for the game.

Andrew Knizer filled in at shortstop for State with Trea Turner serving a one-game suspension for an ejection in the last game of the Clemson series last weekend.

Knizer, Jake Armstrong and Garrett Suggs had two hits each for NCSU.

Pack starter Logan Jernigan (4-3) allowed six hits and four runs (all earned) over six innings while walking three and striking out three.

Yorgen walked in the second inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brooks. A ground out by Hunter Allen got Yorgen to third and he scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.

Yorgen's single down the right field line keyed a two-run fourth. Brooks singled to move Yorgen to third. Allen's sacrifice bunt brought Yorgen in and Brown had an RBI single for a 4-0 Pirates advantage.

ECU had two double plays.

The Pirates (8-4 Conference USA) are scheduled to start a three-game league series at Old Dominion (20-14, 8-7) at 6 p.m. Friday.
