Talk 1070 execs in on new radio venture

A new limited liability
corporation formed by three North Carolina broadcasters has agreed to
acquire four Eastern N.C. radio properties, including a pair of
100,000-watt FM stations.
Greenville broadcaster
Henry Hinton, managing member of the new company � Inner Banks Media,
LLC � announced Thursday that he has teamed with Raleigh broadcaster Don
Curtis and Hank Hinton to purchase
four stations currently owned by Archway Broadcast Group of
Atlanta.
Curtis is president of
Curtis Media Group. Hank Hinton is the son of
Henry Hinton.
In recent years, the
Hintons have managed WNCT-AM Talk 1070 in a programming and advertising
sales partnership with the Beasley Broadcast Group. One of that
partnership's undertakings involves a five-year agreement with ISP
Sports and East Carolina University under which Talk 1070 serves as the
AM anchor station for Pirate football games and the exclusive
broadcaster in Pitt and Beaufort Counties of ECU basketball and baseball
games.
Henry Hinton, an ECU
alumnus with more than three decades of experience in the broadcast
industry, told Bonesville.net the new venture will not affect his
partnership with Beasley Broadcasting and will not alter Talk 1070's
role in airing play-by-play coverage from the Pirate ISP Sports Network.
The station is in the first year of a five-year agreement to carry ECU's
games.
The stations involved in
the sale from Archway to Inner Banks Media are in the Greenville-New
Bern-Jacksonville market: WRHT 96.3 100,000 watts, WRHD 103.7 100,000
watts, WWHA 94.1 25,000 watts, and WWNK 94.3 6,000 watts.
The new ownership group
brings together the combined expertise of seasoned broadcasters with
experience operating stations in Eastern N.C. and throughout the state.
Henry Hinton was formerly
the principal in three FM�s in the same market area. Don Curtis is the
driving force behind some of North Carolina�s most prominent broadcast
entities, including stations in the Raleigh market and across the state.
Hank Hinton is new to the ownership side of the business but was
formerly associated with WRAL-FM in Raleigh and has been involved with
WNCT-AM Talk 1070 in Greenville.

Don Curtis, a long time friend, who is one of the top people in the
business, and of course it is particularly rewarding to have my son be a
part of all this.�

venture gives us the opportunity to explore both interests. Henry
Hinton�s experience and knowledge is the key."
The deal was brokered by
Zoph Potts of Snowden Associates in Washington, NC.
Henry Hinton is a regular
