Cavs set to move to house that Holland
built

Virginia's game today against
Maryland will be the Cavaliers' final regular season game at University
Hall.
After calling U-Hall home
since the 1965-66 season, the Cavaliers will move across the street to their
new $130 million facility, the
John Paul Jones Arena, for the 2006-07
season.
In in his later capacity as
special advisor to UVa president John Casteen, III, former Cavs coach and
director of athletics Terry Holland was instrumental in helping raise the
funds for the lavish new facility before departing Charlottesville in Sept.
2004
to take over as AD at East Carolina.
Holland won a school-record
326 games during his 16-year tenure as coach of the Cavaliers (1974-90). As
athletic director (1995-2001), he was the driving force in firming up plans
to construct the new basketball arena.
In 41 seasons at University
Hall, UVa is 402-142 (.739 winning percentage) all-time, but the program
didn't experience success at an elite level until the Holland coaching era.
During Holland's period at the
helm, the Cavaliers made nine trips to the NCAA Tournament � including two
to the Final Four � and four to the NIT.
The Cavs could possibly play a
home game in the NIT in their old facility.
