Junior guard Isaiah Sykes recorded 20 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists to lead Central Florida to an 83-73 Conference USA victory over East Carolina Saturday afternoon in Orlando.

Junior forward Tristan Spurlock (16 points), senior forward Keith Clanton (14), junior guard Calvin Newell (13) and sophomore forward Kasey Wilson (10) joined Sykes in double figures as the Golden Knights (17-6, 7-2 C-USA) seized a 48-35 halftime lead and then fended off a late ECU surge.

Senior forward Maurice Kemp paced the Pirates (13-9, 4-5) with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Kemp's offensive output boosted his league-leading scoring average to 18.1.

ECU junior forward Ty Armstrong scored 13 points, senior guard Miguel Paul had 11 points and 10 assists and junior forward Robert Sampson added 10 points in his first action since suffering a knee injury last month.

Trailing by as much as 16 early in the second half, the Pirates gradually cut into the deficit, drawing within 77-73 on a trey by junior guard Akeem Richmond with 1:31 left. But UCF shut the door with a layup by Sykes and two free throws each by Spurlock and Newell.

ECU now turns its attention to a key two-game home stand. The Pirates face UAB on Wednesday (7 p.m.) and Southern Miss on Saturday.

Since the Pirates' 91-85 road win over the Blazers on on Jan. 23, recharged UAB (11-13, 3-6) has won three of its last four games.

When ECU hosts the Golden Eagles at 5 p.m. on Saturday, it will be the first time the teams have met this season. USM (18-6, 7-2) is knotted with UCF in second place in C-USA behind Memphis (20-3, 9-0.)
