OGDEN, UT — East Carolina's
final possession in the
CollegeInsider.com Tournament
lasted 17 seconds. It made a
memory that will endure for
decades. Akeem Richmond took a
kickout from Miguel Paul and
drained a 3-pointer from the
left wing to lift the Pirates to
a 77-74 win over host Weber
State in the CIT championship
game.

Williams Arena at Minges
Coliseum has transformed into a
sort of Never-Never Land during
East Carolina's four-game run to
this point in the
CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
ECU's seniors never lost their
last game in the enabling
environment and opponents never
played well for 40 minutes. In
the case of Evansville in the
CIT semifinals, the Aces never
were really in the game.

ECU zone slows Greyhounds |
|
Sometimes success is as easy as
changing defenses. Loyola of
Maryland reacted to a zone
defense from East Carolina like
they had entered some disabling
dimension of the Twilight Zone
on Tuesday night and ECU
delighted a raucous house in
Williams Arena at Minges
Coliseum with a closing run to a
70-58 victory. The Minges
maestro, Jeff Lebo, made a
significant tweak and kept the
Pirates' party rocking full
blast into the semifinals of the
CollegeInsider.com Tournament. ...

College Life. But last night
College Life's regular
meeting room was empty, its
members displaced to the
student section at Minges
Coliseum. ...

It took 50 years for East
Carolina to win its first
postseason basketball game on
the Division I level. It only
took four days for the Pirates
to win their second. ECU climbed
in the driver's seat early and
appropriately relegated Rider to
passenger status as the Pirates
took a 75-54 win over the Broncs
in the second-round of the
CollegeInsider.com Tournament

back to advance in CIT |

Miguel Paul picked a good
time to find his shooting eye in
East Carolina's game against
visiting Savannah State Tuesday
night in the first round of the
CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
The senior point guard nailed a
three off an assist from Akeem
Richmond with 47 seconds left to
give ECU its first lead and he
hit a decisive pair of free
throws 34 seconds later to help
the Pirates capture a 66-65
comeback victory over the Tigers. ...
