Cincinnati 31, Rhode Island 24
CINCINNATI — Gino Guidugli passed for 332
yards and three touchdowns and Cincinnati rallied to beat Rhode Island 31-24
Saturday despite allowing 371 yards rushing.
Guidugli's 55-yard touchdown pass to Hannibal Thomas tied the score 17-all
in the second quarter and his 13-yard TD pass to Thaddeus Lewis in the third
put the Bearcats (5-4) ahead to stay 24-17.
Air Force 31, Army 3
AIR FORCE ACADEMY — Joey Ashcroft hit three
field goals and Marchello Graddy recovered three fumbles, leading Air Force
to a 31-3 win over Army on Saturday that extended the nation's longest
losing streak to 12 games.
Army (0-10) had six turnovers and just 199
total yards to match the worst start in school history (1973). The Black
Knights have won once in 22 games and haven't beaten Air Force on the road
since 1977, a span of 13 games.
Tulane 38, UAB 24
BIRMINGHAM — J.P. Losman threw three
touchdown passes and Jovon Jackson ran for 183 yards and two TDs as Tulane
held off a late rally to defeat UAB 38-24 on Saturday.
Tulane (4-6, 2-4 Conference USA) played
without star senior tailback Mewelde Moore, who is out with a broken hand.
But Jackson, a sophomore making his first start, carried 26 times and broke
an 85-yard scoring run in the final minute to clinch the victory.
Southern Miss 31, Houston 10
HOUSTON — Dustin Almond threw for 237 yards
and two touchdowns and John Eubanks returned a fumble 27 yards for a score
as Southern Mississippi beat Houston 31-10 Saturday night.
Almond's 25-yard TD pass to Antwon Courington put Southern Mississippi (6-3,
5-0 Conference USA) up 17-10 at halftime. Eubanks scored early in the third
for a 24-10 lead. Almond, making his fourth start, was 17-of-26 with no
interceptions.

Lengthy absence expected for Tar Heel
forward
CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina forward David
Noel tore ligaments in his right thumb and is expected to be out six to
eight weeks. The 6-foot-6 sophomore injured the thumb in practice, coach Roy
Williams said last week.
``I am so disappointed for David and our
team,'' Williams said. ``David worked hard in the offseason to develop his
all-around game and that work had shown well in his play in the first weeks
of practice.''
Noel played in all 35 games last season,
averaging 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds, and was the only regular to shoot
better than 50 percent from the field. He had career-bests of 21 points and
12 rebounds against DePaul in the first round of the NIT.
