Tulane University has announced the launch of a promotional website for senior quarterback J.P. Losman. The website, located at www.JP-Losman.com, can also be accessed via the official website of Tulane athletics, www.TulaneGreenWave.com.

Losman, a candidate for All-America honors as well as a selection to preseason Watch Lists for the Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, has opened his senior season with a flourish.

"J.P. has been one of the most consistent players, not only here, but in the country," Tulane head coach Chris Scelfo said. "If he can continue to get help, he is on track to have an outstanding year."

Losman's hot start has not gone unnoticed. SI.com has listed the senior as one of five players on its Heisman Watch List, while ESPN.com's Mel Kiper, Jr., credits Losman as one of the top two senior quarterbacks in the upcoming draft.

Last spring, Losman was rated as the No. 2 senior quarterback in the country by the National Football Scouting Service, one of the two combine services used by the NFL.

The website launch for Losman gives the Green Wave two players with official websites. Losman joins senior running back Mewelde Moore and the site www.MeweldeMoore.net.

Surgery sidelines Memphis basketball player

Memphis sophomore basketball guard Jeremy Hunt has undergone surgery on his left foot and will be lost to the team for an estimated two weeks. He is not expected to play when the team travels to Cancun in October for an exhibition series.

Hunt was operated on at Campbell Clinic by a trio of doctors, Barry Phillips, Barney Freeman and E. Greer Richardson. The physicians described his condition as the early stages of a stress fracture.

Hunt, a graduate of Craigmont High School in Memphis, appeared in 20 games last season and averaged 9.4 points per game. He was named the Player of the Game at the season opening AT&T Wireless Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Madison Square Garden, where Memphis defeated Syracuse University.

New ACC scheduling equation not equal for all

The Atlantic Coast Conference has come up with a scheduling scheme that forces four schools to play all three of the conference's football powers the next two seasons.

The additions of Miami and Virginia Tech gives the ACC three of the top programs in the nation. Miami is No. 2 in the Associated Press Top 25, Virginia Tech is No. 4 and current ACC member Florida State is fifth.

The schedule, approved in meetings that included athletic directors, senior women's administrators and faculty representatives, maintains eight conference games, with each team skipping two schools every year.

In the first two years, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Virginia and North Carolina will play all three of the league's marquee football programs.

Miami will play both Virginia Tech and Florida State, while the Hokies and Seminoles will not meet. The other four teams will play two of the powerhouses.

The schedule, announced by ACC commissioner John Swofford, will work in either one division or two, if the NCAA allows the conference to stage a championship game despite not having the mandatory 12 teams.

The conference did not discuss adding a 12th team during its two-day meetings.

"We're an 11-team league right now," ACC assistant commissioner Mike Finn said. "All of the models that we did were based on 11 teams."

The formula maintains the home and away rotation in place now and will be evaluated for fairness and balance after two years, Swofford said.

The league also announced that its men's basketball teams will play a 16-game conference schedule in 2004 and 2005, and its women's teams will play 14-game conference schedules, meeting each team at least once.

For the men, the schedule will include annual home-and-home series against two "primary partner" schools, home-and-home series against four other schools and single games against the league's other four schools.

The following year, men's teams will play home-and-home series against the four teams they played once the previous year, home-and-home series against their partner schools and single games against the other four.

The women will play home-and-home series against four primary partner schools and single game against the other six teams in both seasons.
