N.C. Central wins thriller in Aggie-Eagle Classic
RALEIGH — Thanks to a missed
field goal attempt by North Carolina A&T freshman Joseph Arroyo with 8
seconds remaining, Adrian Warren's Labor Day passing performance didn't go
for naught.
Warren
passed for 269 yards and two touchdowns Monday
to lift North Carolina Central past N.C. A&T 23-22 before a Carter-Finley
Stadium crowd of 35,000
in the Aggie-Eagle Classic.
Torey Ross caught seven passes
for 104 yards and a touchdown and Greg Pruitt added 131 yards on the ground
and as the Eagles amassed 400 yards in total offense.
Brandon Sweeney gained 151
yards on 32 carries and three touchdown's toward the Aggies' 278 yards in
total offense.
Rickie Lewis had six tackles
and one assist for the Aggies while Theron Thomas posted five tackles and
six assists.
N.C. A&T led 10-9 after a
32-yard field goal by Arroyo 43 seconds before halftime, but N.C. Central
took control early in the fourth quarter when Warren connected with Julius
McClellan on a 45-yard strike to put his team ahead 17-10 after the extra
point.
The Aggies scored twice more
in the fourth to take a 22-17 lead. The Eagles put the game away with 2:47
on the clock when Ross caught a 46-yard touchdown pass from Warren to make
it a final 23-22.
