Bowling During Bowl Week

By Brian Bailey

WNCT-TV 9 Sports Director Brian Bailey is on the scene in New Orleans, bringing daily coverage of bowl week to Bonesville's readers and Channel 9's viewers. The week climaxes on Saturday with East Carolina's R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl showdown against Louisiana-Lafayette.

NEW ORLEANS — Day two of the Pirates' bowl trip to the Crescent City was a busy one for the squad. The team had a late afternoon practice, which was moved indoors because of the threat of rain. Coach Ruffin McNeill had hinted before that he wanted to work indoors anyway because of the bowl game being played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Practice ran long and then the team was late for its Rock 'n' Roll Bowling Party. The event was scheduled for two hours. By the time the squad did get there, there was just enough time to devour a nice spread of food and throw a couple of balls down the lane. The bowling wasn't pretty but the food was good and the team seemed to enjoy itself.

East Carolina offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley is due back with the team tomorrow. He and his wife Caitlyn celebrated the birth of the couple's first child earlier this week. The couple had a daughter and named her Sloane. Coach McNeill joked with reporters that he was certainly glad the baby looked like Mom and not Dad!

Both East Carolina and Louisiana-Lafayette will work out at the Superdome tomorrow. The Ragin' Cajuns will go first. Media day for both teams will follow and then the Pirates will practice later in the afternoon.

All Friday practices will be closed to the media.
