GREENVILLE — East Carolina topped James Madison 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium to take the season-opening series two games to one.

It was the seventh straight series win for the Pirates going back to the 2013 season and the second win in relief in 2014 for Ryan Williams, a weekend starter a year ago.

Williams was awarded the honor of wearing former Pirates coach Keith LeClair's No. 23 jersey on Feb. 8.

ECU starter Tyler Bolton went four innings Sunday. He allowed four hits, two runs (one earned) with one walk and one strikeout.

The Pirates summoned Williams with a 3-1 lead after Ky Parrott led off the fifth with a single for the Dukes.

JMU managed three hits off the right-hander, who struck out six over four innings without a walk. Williams threw 57 pitches, 43 for strikes.

Reynolds fanned a pair in the ninth. He had nine strikes on his 13 deliveries.

The Dukes scored an unearned run in the top of the first.

ECU answered in the bottom of the inning as Garrett Brooks led off with a single. Brooks stole second and scored the tying run on an RBI single by Zach Houchins.

Luke Lowery had a bunt single and stole second before he was caught stealing third in ECU's two-run fourth. Dylan Brown had a hit to right center, Reid Love singled to right and Travis Watkins reached on an error by the shortstop that allowed Brown to come home with the go-ahead run. The Pirates went up 3-1 on an RBI single by freshman shortstop Kirk Morgan.

Brown's triple down the right field line in the eighth and a sacrifice fly by Ben Fultz provided a 4-2 lead.

ECU outhit the Dukes, 9-7. Brown had two hits with his triple and scored two runs.

The Pirates host Campbell on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
