Heels fall in Columbia; NCSU, Houston play today

Columbia, SC Landon Powell homered and drove in three runs, and Michael
Campbell hit a go-ahead two-run single as South Carolina beat North Carolina
5-4 in the opening game of Friday's NCAA baseball super regionals.
Fullerton, CA Jason Windsor and Chad Cordero combined on a five-hitter as
Cal State-Fullerton defeated Arizona State 5-1.
Baton Rouge, LA Steven White scattered seven hits and struck out nine in
eight innings, and Chris Durbin's RBI single keyed a three-run eighth as
Baylor prevailed over Louisiana State 4-1.
Stanford, CA John Hudgins pitched a seven-hitter and Danny Putnam hit a
three-run homer to lead Stanford to a 5-1 victory over Long Beach State.
The other four super regionals are scheduled to start today, with Texas at
(host) Florida State; North Carolina State at Miami; Houston at Rice; and
Southwest Missouri State at Ohio State.
