McMahon departing ECU for Saints

Greg McMahon is leaving the East Carolina football coaching staff to become assistant special teams coach on the staff of Coach Sean Payton of the New Orleans Saints.

McMahon coached tight ends and special teams at ECU in 2005 after spending 13 years with similar responsibilities on the staff at Illinois.

NCAA may grant replay challenges to coaches

The NCAA rules committee will recommend that college football coaches be granted at least one replay challenge per game beginning in 2006. The committee also recommended a universal video review format for all conferences. The changes would have to be approved in March to go into effect.

Snyder steps down, Watkins steps up at Mizzou

Missouri basketball coach Quin Snyder has resigned, a university official confirmed to the Columbia (MO) Daily Tribune on Friday afternoon.

The former Duke player and Blue Devils assistant coach informed the team of his decision at 2:30 p.m. Friday, according to the newspaper. Practice was postponed, and the team was informed that associate head coach Melvin Watkins, a former head coach and star player at UNC-Charlotte, will direct the Tigers for the remainder of the season.

Missouri (10-11, 3-7 Big 12) had lost six straight games, including Tuesday’s 90-64 drubbing at Baylor. Snyder had been heavily criticized by fans and media, although earlier this week he indicated that he didn't intend to resign.
