C-USA corrals five regional spots

From staff and Conference USA reports

Conference USA reinforced its position as one of the nation's top college baseball leagues when it received five bids to the 2008 NCAA Baseball Championship. The invitations to compete in next weekend's regionals were announced by the Division I baseball committee on Monday.

Rice will host the Houston Regional as the No. 6 national seed, Southern Miss will be the No. 2 seed in Baton Rouge, LA, East Carolina will be the No. 2 seed in Conway, SC, and Tulane will play in Tallahassee, FL, as the No. 3 seed.

Houston, which emerged Sunday with the Conference USA Tournament title, will be the No. 3 seed in College Station, TX.

C-USA's five bids tie for the most in league history, matching the five selections during the 2002 season.

Only the Southeastern Conference (9), Atlantic Coast Conference (6) and Big 12 (6) had more bids than Conference USA.
