UCF's McDuffie turns momentum

ORLANDO — As a tight spiral from Shane Carden descended into the waiting hands of Justin Hardy as he ran down the East sideline in the first quarter at Central Florida on Thursday night the Pirates were looking good. Two ECU possessions had produced a 14-0 lead with Carden completing a game-opening drive with a 7-yard touchdown run. Holland: Visit by Tar Heels in 2013 unlikely

ORLANDO — The Atlantic Coast Conference apparently will play eight league games in football next season rather than nine as had been initially projected with the addition of new members Pitt and Syracuse. East Carolina athletic director Terry Holland said Thursday night in Orlando that probably doesn't mean a home game with North Carolina will be salvaged for the 2013 season as had been contracted earlier. ...
