Tulane took advantage of
its superior size and East Carolina's propensity to make mistakes to
handily defeat the Pirates 72-56 Saturday night in a Conference USA game
in Greenville.
Senior forward David Gomez
with 18 points led four players in double figures as the Green Wave used
a late first half run and a pair of second half spurts to keep East
Carolina in catch-up mode through most of the game.
Junior center Robinson
Louisme scored 11 points and sophomore guard Kevin Sims and senior
forward Donnovan Stith added 10 apiece to help Tulane improve to 14-6
overall, 4-2 in the the conference.
Louisme had a game-high 7
rebounds and Tulane dominated the boards 39-26.
Sims contributed 7 assists
and did not commit a turnover. The Green Wave committed just 5 turnovers
for the game, while East Carolina gave up possession through miscues on
16 occasions.
Senior guard Darrell
Jenkins was the lone Pirate to reach double figures with 12 points.
The Green Wave led at the
half 30-23 after outscoring the Pirates 15-3 over the final 8:23 of the
period to erase a 5-point deficit and seize control of the game's flow.
The loss dropped East
Carolina to 7-11 in all games, 1-4 in league play. The Pirates will have
a week to regroup before facing Southern Mississippi next Saturday in
Hattiesburg at 3 p.m.
