Unbeaten Clemson sinks

No. 18 Clemson sprinted
from a 3-point deficit to a 14-point lead over a span of less than five
minutes in the first half and maintained control the rest of the way to
defeat East Carolina 82-67 Wednesday night in Greenville.
Freshman guard Terrence
Oglesby connected on six of seven 3-point attempts and scored a
game-high 22 points to pace the Tigers, who improved to 8-0 heading into
a two-week break before participating in the San Juan (PR) Shootout
(Dec. 20-22).
Clemson got double-figure
contributions from freshman guard Demontez Stitt (13), senior guard
Cliff Hammonds (12), sophomore wingman David Potter (11) and junior
forward K.C. Rivers (10).
Junior guard Sam Hinnant
scored 16 points to lead the Pirates. His third 3-pointer gave East
Carolina (3-5) a 16-13 lead at the 13:37 mark in the first half before
the Tigers started their 17-point run to dampen the hopes of ECU fans
for the school's first win over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent in
57 tries.
Senior guard Cory Farmer
scored 13 points and sophomore forward Gabe Blair added 10 for the
Pirates.
Clemson forward Trevor
Booker, a 6-7, 240-lb sophomore, wrestled in 17 rebounds as the Tigers
dominated the boards 50-26.
East Carolina has another
shot at an ACC foe on Saturday when it hosts N.C. State at 7 p.m. (TV:
WITN, TWC).
