Sherrod lights up Knights

Jontae Sherrod got hot
while Central Florida got cold.
The senior guard from
Tarboro scored 19 of his 23 points after intermission to help East
Carolina wipe out a halftime deficit and surge past a suddenly
cold-shooting UCF team for a 68-61 Conference USA victory Saturday
evening in Greenville.
Sherrod carried out the
offensive assault while the Golden Knights (14-7, 1-7 C-USA) were making
only 30 percent (6-20) of their second half field goal attempts,
including 0-7 from 3-point range.
After trailing 39-34 at
halftime, the Pirates (13-10, 5-4) took the lead for good, 46-43, on a
Sherrod 3-pointer with 13:39 left.
Junior forward Darrius
Morrow had 15 points and senior forward Jamar Abrams added 10 for East
Carolina.
Sophomore guard Marcus
Jordan scored 24 points and senior forward A.J. Tyler contributed 10 for
UCF.
The attendance of 6,567
marked the Pirates' biggest home crowd of the season.
ECU is idle until next
Saturday when it hosts league opponent Marshall in a rematch. The
Pirates
edged the Thundering Herd 82-81 on Jan. 22 in
Huntington, WV.
