Three straight dominating
performances landed East Carolina's Darrius Morrow on the Conference USA
All-Tournament team named after the completion of Saturday's
championship game between Memphis and tournament host Texas-El Paso.
The honor marked the first
time that an ECU player has been selected for the All-Tournament squad
since the school became a basketball-playing member of the league in
2001.
Morrow, a junior forward
from Atlanta, averaged 21.7 points and 13.3 rebounds to lead the Pirates
to the semifinals, where they fell to eventual champion Memphis.
ECU's opening round and
quarterfinal wins over Central Florida and No. 1 seed UAB, respectively,
also broke new ground for the program. The Pirates had never previously
won a game in the annual league championship playoff.
Morrow scored 18 points
and grabbed 12 rebounds in the
victory over UCF on Wednesday
and recorded 22 points and 14 rebounds the next day in the
upset win over the Blazers.
For a final encore, Morrow
produced yet another double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds in
ECU's
semifinal loss to Memphis on
Friday.
Other players named to the
All-Tournament team were Joe Jackson of Memphis, Tulsa's Justin Hurtt
and UTEP's Randy Culpepper and Christian Polk.
Jackson received the Most
Valuable Player award after leading the fourth-seeded Tigers to three wins in
three days, including a 67-66 triumph over the third-seeded Miners in
the title game.
