SATURDAY STAR:
P.J. Daniels, Georgia Tech, ran for a
career-high 240 yards in a 41-24 win over North Carolina.
WORKING OVERTIME: Leon Washington's
12-yard touchdown run gave No. 13 Florida State a 50-44 double-overtime
victory over North Carolina State. ... No. 4 Ohio State beat No. 11 Purdue
16-13 in overtime when Ben Jones missed a 36-yard field goal that would have
kept the game going. ... No. 12 Virginia Tech beat Temple 24-23 in overtime
when the Owls' Jared Davis missed an extra point.
CHAMPIONS: No. 13 Florida State
wrapped up its 11th Atlantic Coast Conference title in 12 years, beating
North Carolina State 50-44 in double overtime. ... Penn beat Harvard 32-24
to win its second consecutive Ivy League championship.
BLOWOUTS: East Tennessee State beat
Chattanooga 68-7. It was the most points in school history for the Bucs,
whose school president has canceled the football program effective after
this season for budget reasons.
NOT-SO-SWEET HOME: Notre Dame beat
BYU 33-14 to avoid losing four home games in a season for the just the
second time ever. The Irish allowed a record 168 points at home this season
and were outscored at Notre Dame Stadium by 49 points, the first time they
have been outscored at home since 1963. ... No. 18 Nebraska lost to Kansas
State 38-9. It was the Wildcats' first victory in Lincoln since 1968, and
the Cornhuskers' worst loss at Memorial Stadium since a 31-0 setback against
Missouri in 1958.
STREAKS: No. 10 TCU won its 12th
straight game, 43-10 over Cincinnati. ... Colgate extended the nation's
longest winning streak to 17 with a 14-3 victory over Fordham. The win also
gave Colgate 11 wins in a season for the first time. ... No. 1 Oklahoma won
its 12th straight game, 41-3 over Baylor. ... No. 15 Florida beat South
Carolina for the 13th straight time, 24-22. ... Houston beat Army 34-14, the
Black Knights' 13th straight loss. Army also lost at home for the 13th
straight time.
SNAPPED: Vanderbilt snapped the
nation's longest conference losing streak at 23 with a 28-17 victory over
Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky. ... Penn State's 52-7 victory over
Indiana broke a six-game losing streak, the school's longest since losing
seven straight in 1931.
STRONG IN DEFEAT: North Carolina
State's Philip Rivers completed 28 of 38 passes for 422 yards and four
touchdowns and ran for another score in the Wolfpack's 50-44 double-overtime
loss to No. 13 Florida State.
BOWL BOUND: North Texas accepted its
third straight invitation to the New Orleans Bowl after clinching the Sun
Belt Conference title with a 58-14 win over Arkansas State. The Mean Green
will face a Conference USA team in the Dec. 16 game.
SPEAKING: "It felt good off my foot.
Then I looked up ..." — Purdue's Ben Jones, whose miss on a 36-yard field
goal attempt gave No. 4 Ohio State a 16-13 overtime win over the No. 11
Boilermakers.
