Compiled from staff reports

Four Hurricanes will miss opener with FSU
Miami coach Larry Coker has announced that
he has suspended projected starting wide receiver Ryan Moore, running back
Tyrone Moss, linebacker James Bryant and Rashaun Jones recently switched
from cornerback to receiver for the Sept. 4 opener against Florida State
at the Orange Bowl, according to a Miami Herald report.
The coach cited "violation of team policy"
as the basis for the suspensions.
According to WQAM's Orlando Alzugaray, Moss
was suspended because he missed study-hall sessions, but has made them up.
When reached by the Herald, Moss' mother, Synitha, confirmed the
information.
Moore, a senior who scored the Hurricanes'
lone touchdown last year at FSU, is the only player who also will be
suspended for the second game against Florida A&M.
Report says Sooners quarterback canned
The Daily Oklahoman of Oklahoma City (OK)
has reported that quarterback Rhett Bomar is one of two players who have
been dismissed from the Oklahoma football team. The paper said it made the
report based on several sources.
Oklahoma released a statement confirming
that two players had been dismissed by the team, but did not identify them.
The school said the players violated NCAA rules by working at a private
business and taking "payment over an extended period of time in excess of
time actually worked."
Bomar set an Oklahoma freshman record with
2,018 passing yards after taking over as the Sooners' starter in the second
game last season. Oklahoma City television station KOCO reported that
Bomar's roommate, offensive lineman J.D. Quinn, was the second player
dismissed.
Tigers' Tate takes aim on Women's Amateur
Memphis senior Stacey Tate is preparing for
the 105th U.S. Women's Amateur next week at Pumpkin Hill Golf Club in North
Plains, OR, according to the Memphis athletic website.
The Auckland, New Zealand, native will tee
off in the first round of stroke play at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 7th.
Tate qualified for this year's prestigious tournament by virtue of a
first-place 65 at the regional qualifier at Atlanta's Chapel Hills Golf Club
on July 12. Tate took first place last season in three collegiate
tournaments, placing in the top 10 in four others.
After two rounds of stroke play at the U.S.
Women's Amateur, the field will be cut to the low 64 scorers who will then
advance to the match play portion of the tournament. The tournament will
begin Monday and will conclude with the final match play event on August 13.
The match play portions of the tournament will be broadcast by The Golf
Channel.
