Rice summons Bailiff to guide grid program
David Bailiff was introduced on
Friday as football coach at Rice.
Bailiff, 48, has spent the last three
seasons as head coach at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, where he
posted a 21-15 record.
Bailiff led the Bobcats to their first
Southland Conference championship and the semifinals of the NCAA Division
1AA playoffs in 2005.
He replaces Todd Graham, who led the
Owls to a 7-6 record and their first bowl bid since 1961 before resigning
January 11th to become coach at Tulsa.
Tigers, Tar Heels picked in ACC baseball
Clemson has been selected
as the preseason favorite to capture the ACC baseball
championship in Jacksonville, Fla., in May, as determined by a
vote of the league's 12 head coaches.
The Tigers were chosen by the coaches
to win the Atlantic Division title, while North Carolina, last year's
national runner-up, were picked as the favorite to capture the Coastal
Division crown.
This is the second year for divisional
play in the ACC. Clemson and North Carolina won their respective divisions a
year ago.
Lady Pirates look to bounce back at Memphis
Carmen Guzman scored a game-high 24
points to lead the UAB women's basketball team to a 59-52 win over East
Carolina on Thursday evening in Bartow Arena.
LaCoya Terry paced East Carolina with
13 points, while Jasmine Young added 10 points. Days led ECU on the boards
with 11 rebounds.
The Lady Pirates fell to 8-11 overall
and 3-3 in Conference USA.
East Carolina plays at Memphis at 2
p.m. today.
