[2002 LETTERS, IN NEWEST TO OLDEST ORDER]

MIKE YORKE
December 9, 2002

If Al Myatt is serious when he says he considers Steve Logan a friend — God alone can help Myatt's enemies.

Whatever you think of Logan's firing you cannot help but consider Al Myatt as an active conspirator in the process. The timing and content of his Logan stories were scripted for maximum damage. I am totally convinced he worked hand in glove with Mike Hamrick in this effort.

You have reduced your web site to a ridiculous, soap operatic level with your decision to include yourself among the buffoons that are making a big deal about the announced attendance at the TCU game.

Ask yourself, what tangible benefit would anyone achieve by reporting an artificially low number. There is none. It does not serve as a diversion from another issue, it does not make one person look better relative to another person, and it does not further any dastardly cause as your article would make one think. And, since no one benefits, where is the scandal that you implied? And, since there is no scandal here, why don't you focus your efforts on more positive aspects of ECU athletics?

Perhaps you do not see this site's charge as promoting ECU athletics but I'm willing to bet that the companies that have purchased ad space on the site have that perception.

I have to admit that Charlie Adams and the NCHSAA is really starting to bore me. He continues to rant and rave over a dead horse. I firmly believe it is time for Mr. Adams and the NCHSAA to rise above all the talk and take a look at their own house.

90 years ago promises were made. Long before ESPN, big time college football (as the money maker it is today), million dollar bowl games, even before T.V. itself. Times have changed Mr. Adams. Is it time for yourself and the NCHSAA to change also?

So many things now compete with Friday night football. Malls, movies, "cruising", and jobs just to name a few. We live in much more mobile society than we did 90 years or even 30 years ago. I, for one, live more than 2 hours from where I went to high school at and could care less to spend $5.00 to see a game where I live now. Now, that may change when my son gets in high school and is playing but then I would go to the high school game over any college game anyway.

Maybe, just maybe, it's time for the high schools to look at themselves and see what they can do to increase attendance/revenues. The world has changed Mr. Adams, maybe you and the NCHSSA should think about catching up.

SHANNON BOLING

Hello, Pirate fans. I have to admit that I'm still in a state of shock after Saturday's loss (to Duke).

I just read the (article) concerning "All is not well at ECU." I hope this isn't going to be an excuse, because WE all know that when it comes time to strap on the helmet, it's the players who are responsible for the what happens on the field — not faculty/administrators, or even our talented coaching staff.

I should know, I played for ECU in the late 80's and those were some bleak but profitable years.

Bottom line: don't start pointing fingers or making excuses or becoming a fair weather fan. Stick behind OUR guns.

Yes, WE lost to Duke, (but) lets not dwell on the past. Let US focus on this week and Wake.

Yours in battle, I bleed purple and gold.
